NPR Promotes Julie Parr and Elyse Poinsett to Senior Leadership Roles

NPR has elevated two longtime leaders as it strengthens its fundraising efforts, together with its digital revenue operations, during this critical period for public media. The Chief Development Office,r Rachel Evans, announced Julie Parr has received a promotion to Senior Vice President Development, while Elyse Poinsett has become Vice President Digital Revenue and Operations. 

Julie Parr to Lead Development Strategy

Parr will handle all aspects of major gifts and institutional giving, planned giving, and donor communications while he maintains his partnership with the NPR Foundation. 

She joined NPR in 2023 with more than 20 years of philanthropic leadership experience, which included her work at Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. 

In 2025, she took the role of interim head of development, which she used to guide the organization through record-breaking fundraising campaigns. 

Parr, who has been a listener for many years, described his promotion as a deeply personal experience because he believes independent journalism plays a vital role in sustaining democracy. 

Elyse Poinsett to Expand Digital Revenue

Elyse Poinsett to Expand Digital Revenue. Poinsett, who joined NPR in 2020, has led the modernization of its digital fundraising tools, which improve donor experience while exceeding revenue targets. 

She will develop future digital revenue systems at NPR, which will enable the organization to achieve ongoing expansion. Her public media experience includes leadership roles at Greater Public and WHYY. 

She described her work at NPR as a vital mission to support the organization, which she sees as both an honor and an obligation, because public media serves essential functions in communities across the United States.

NPR maintains sustainable growth through its 250 Member stations, which provide service to almost all Americans. The promotions reflect a broader push to deepen donor relationships while expanding digital innovation—ensuring independent journalism remains strong for years to come.
